Batteries Plus Bulbs

A new Joliet buBPB-Store-spotlightsiness is energizing the community – literally! Ron and Paula Takacs,  owners of Batteries Plus Bulbs, opened their business on September 21, 2015.

Batteries Plus Bulbs offers customers a variety of products and services such as: Batteries, Automotive Batteries, Battery Recycling, Light Bulbs, Light Bulb Recycling and Mobile Device Repair.

If your smartphone or tablet is ever broken, there’s no need to worry. Batteries Plus Bulbs has the expertise to make repairs on those devices right in-store. And what about those hard to find batteries for your key fob? This franchise store carries a large selection of these batteries as well.

Whether it’s an ordinary watch battery or a specialty battery for something like an electric mobility scooter, there is sure to be one available. It’s also worth mentioning that this Joliet business has lightbulbs to meet just about every residential or commercial need. From CFL and LED lightbulbs to novelty lights and street lights, this store has the area’s largest selection.

Ron explained that he became interested in owning this type of business because of its association with technology. He also felt it was a great fit for his electrical engineering background. He said, “I enjoy the variety of products that I get to work on while helping people who are unable to find solutions anywhere else.”

Ron also works with business accounts such as fire stations, police departments, hotels and auto dealerships to assist with their commercial lighting and battery needs.

Ron’s staff of five employees has received extensive training to ensure that they are up-to-speed on all of the latest technologies. For instance, all new employees must attend 24 hours of online training to make sure they are prepared with product knowledge and expertise to assist their customers. Ron and Paula also attended an additional three weeks of hands-on training.

With a large selection of products, the staff’s extensive knowledge and the ability to service on-site repairs gives this business an edge among the competition.

Ron explained that when he was doing his business research, he reached out to 20 other franchisees before making a final decision. After they all shared positive feedback and that they would definitely own their franchise again, he was reassured to move forward.

During the planning stages, Ron reached out to the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Joliet Junior College. Ron said that the SBDC at JJC consulted with him when he needed assistance with developing a business plan. He met one-on-one with Joe Giunta, an SBDC business advisor, to receive feedback.

Joe said, “Ron really did his homework to make sure that everything was in place. He’s passionate about his business and was very well-prepared during the planning process.” The SBDC also provided Ron with a list of referrals to resources such as accountants and attorneys who could assist with more specific questions.

Ron said, “The SBDC has fantastic resources. I would definitely recommend them to other business owners. I really liked the one-on-one consultations and that I had time to ask all of my questions without feeling like I was rushed through it.”
